OL 3100 is a course that explores the adult learner at Penn State. It is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of the adult learner and to assist instructors with effective teaching methodologies.
Course Goals
The goal of OL 3100 is to provide online instructors with a framework for:
- understanding how adult learners differ from traditional 18- to 22-year-old college students
- engaging adult students to improve learning outcomes
- promoting effective interaction with adult students

- define the “adult learner” in general terms
- identify unique characteristics of adult learners at Penn State
- recognize the Penn State services that are available for adult learners
