We are pleased to announce our COIL Fischer Speaker Series Keynote, Rena Palloff. Dr. Rena Palloff is a mentoring faculty member in the Educational Leadership and Change Doctoral Program at Fielding Graduate University as well as a founding faculty member of the Master’s of Organizational Management and Development and the Director of the Teaching in the Virtual Classroom Graduate Certificate Programs.
Dr. Palloff is the author of several books and articles including:
- The Excellent Online Instructor: Strategies for Professional Development (Jossey-Bass, 2011)
- Faculty Training and Mentoring at a Distance: Learning Together in the Virtual Community, Published in Cases on Digital Technology in Higher Education: Issues and Challenges (IAP, 2011)
- Assessing the Online Learner: Resources and Strategies for Faculty (Jossey-Bass, 2009)

There will be an opportunity to meet Rena and discuss online teaching and learning towards the end of the day on December 3rd. Registrations for this part of the Convocation are limited.
MOOCs, Teaching, and Learning
Lead faculty for Penn State’s MOOC offerings in 2013 will discuss their experiences and how teaching a MOOC has influenced their teaching.

Moderator: Kyle Peck, Professor and Research Fellow in the College of Education at Penn State University, Co-Director of the Center for Online Innovation in Learning, and Principal Investigator of NASA’s Aerospace Education Services Project
Penn State Online Student Panel
A small group of Penn State students in online programs will discuss their experience and perspectives on being the online learner. This is an opportunity to talk with the students about online learning and to learn about their experiences in and out of the online learning environment.
Penn State World Campus 15 Year Celebration
All Convocation attendees are invited to join us for a special event celebrating the 15 Year Anniversary of the Penn State World Campus. Refreshments will be provided.
Location and Lodging
The program will be held at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, one of the largest university-based conference center hotels of its kind in the country. The Penn Stater, part of Penn State’s Innovation Park, features renovated rooms, extensive meeting facilities, and excellent restaurants.
